  • Visitor Navigation Report. This report is available after report generation under the Data Mining section. The Visitor Navigation report helps in determining link popularity. For each link on the page it displays the percentage of clicks the link received as well as additional information when the mouse is hovered over the link.

    Tips
    • Clicking a link will navigate to the page the link points to allowing navigational analysis of the target page.
    • If a downward trend is displayed for a link consider removing the link from the page or taking some kind of appropriate action.

  • Visitor Conversion Report. This report is available after report generation under the Data Mining section. The Visitor Conversions report reports on visitor tagging. Tagging is the process of classifying visitors. The standard (by default available) conversion tags are displayed on the tree on the right and can be added or removed from the report by checking or unchecking the checkbox next to the tag. These tags are:
    • Visitors
    • Search
    • Searches
    • Google
    • Yahoo
    • Search Engines
    • Visit Length
Additional tags can be added by clicking the Visitor Tagging button (at the top) and adding a tag. Tags that are added are known as custom tags. The custom tags available depends on the edition of SurfStats Website Traffic Analyzer you are running. The Visitor Conversions Report creates a crosstab report for each of the following metrics.
    • Number of Visits
    • Visits per day
    • Page views per visitor
    • Average time on site
    • Top Refering Sites
    • Top Search Phrases

    • Top Visitor Countries

    Tips
    • To better understand each crosstab report focus on the metric, which is displayed as the heading for each of the crosstab reports.
    • Use the Had a Specific URL custom tag for the analysis of query parameters.

  • Top Tagged Visitors Report. This report is available after report generation under the Data Mining section. The Top Tagged Visitors report reports a summary of the crosstab reports found in the Visitor Conversions report. Tagging is the process of classifying visitors. The custom tags can be edited by clicking the Visitor Tagging button at the top.

Tracking Ads, Clicks and Click Outs with SurfStats Website Traffic Analyzer

To track Ads and Clicks:

Go to Options - Advertisements (Left main menu) and add the Ad image name under Filename and the Ad script name under Clickstring.

Tip - If you just want to track requests for a specific image, use the image name as the Filename and the Clickstring.

After the reports are generated to screen, Select the Marketing - Ad Views and Clicks report to see it.

Tracking ClickOuts

ClickOuts are clicks on external links that link to web pages which are not on the local web server. This is usually not advertisements and there are usually no costs involved. The hit information on an external link is not logged in the local server's log file but logged in the log file of the remote server which hosts the requested file. Each page with external links that you want to track would require a javascript snippet to generate the hit information in the local server's log file. See the tracking.zip file included in the latest version of SurfStats Website Traffic Analyzer for the javascript source and other required files.

The ssclick javascript is called when a user makes a request on the web page to an external link. The javascript makes a request to the externtracker.gif file and to the external link. The request for the externtracker.gif file is logged in the local server's log file and can then be picked up in SurfStats Website Traffic Analyzer.

To set up tracking of external links with SurfStats Website Traffic Analyzer, you need to:

1. Place the ssclick.js and externtracker.gif files on your website

2. Add the the following javascript code just before the </body> tag in every web page that you want to track the external hits on.

<script type='text/javascript' src='./ssclick.js'></script>

Make sure that the links in the javascript code to the ssclick.js and externtracker.gif files are correct. The ssclick.js and externtracker.gif files and the web page are in the same directory in the above case.

3. Process the log files with the captured information with SurfStats Website Traffic Analyzer (to screen) and view the Data Mining - Visitor navigation report.

Please note:

1. We do not provide support on the script and setup or on getting the hit information in your log files;

2. The script does not log clicks on Google and other javascript generated Ads.
